Video Transcript for Tow Ready Hitch Adapters - Hitch Extender - 80307 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the hidden hitch hitch extender for two inch trailer hitches number 80307. This extender will extend your existing trailer hitch receiver opening by eight inches, it fits two inch trailer hitches, it has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds, and a gross towing weight of 3,500 pounds, and it features a black powder coat finish to help fight against corrosion and rust. One of the neat features here is the pin holes here, you can see there's two of them. That's compatible with the draw tight J pin, and that's available here at etrailer.com number 63201. Taking a look at some of the dimensions here, there's an overall length of 13 inches. From the center of this pin hole to the center of this pin hole is eight inches.

Now we'll bring out our two inch hitch receiver demo model. We'll just slide that in there, use our pin and clip, these are sold separately but also available at etrailer, number PC3, and you'll just clip that on there. From right here to right here is eight inches, as we said, and the length from the center of the pin hole back and center of the pin hole forward is two and a half inches for both. Quick reminder, any time you use a hitch extender, you are going to reduce your hitch's overall capacity by 50 percent, so you'll definitely want to keep that in mind when you use the extender. That should about do it for our hidden hitch hitch extender for two inch trailer hitches, number 80307..

Just received my 80307 Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 8" Long. My newly upsized spare tire had been preventing the use of my hitch rack. Was very pleased with the etrailer service and the ease of using the website. The excellent descriptions, photos, and even videos really help shopping for these types of specialty parts. Shipping went well and expediently. I trial fit the extension with my hitch rack today, and the photos are attached. It fit well and did the trick. I drove around and heard no rattles from it at all.

Prefect fit well

by:

Needed to extend receiver to reach past box and add a carrier for cans.

by:

Excelent Service, the item have excelent quality and great support from Etrailer Team.

by:

It's a hitch extender. We needed it for our hitch mount bike rack because the rear mounted spare tire (2011 Jeep) prevented using it without an extension. Very little weight being applied. It works well. We used it in conjunction with a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch. Good setup.

They work great...we needed an extender due to the spare tire mounted on the back of the jeep to mount a bike rack. Extender works great for that purpose and the anti-tattle piece works great.

by:

Works great! The hitch extender and lock work and fit perfectly. Just the thing I needed to put a decent Thule Apex (or Vertex) 4 bike carrier on my 2005 Jeep Liberty. Just know that tongue weight is reduced...but it's really not a problem with road bikes. eTrailer shipped and delivered very quickly.

Working great - No problems. Finish is still like new.

I used this extension when installing my removable 12,000lb winch to get it away from the rear bumper, and also used this hitch extender on my front hitch which was also purchased from etrailer and works great.

by:

Needed a little more clearance to fold up my cargo rack for a fishing trip so I didn't have to put my rod holders in the camper. Thanks worked great !!

Keep in mind that using an extender lowers the tongue weight capacity maximum amount of downward weight the hitch can bear including carrier and everything stowed on it by 50.

by:

Just what I needed to extend the hitch a little further from the ATV tires. Very heavy duty, the real thing. Also, "ETRAILER" is fantastic to buy from!!

Still working great!

I needed this extension for a bike carrier on my Explorer, now I don't have to remove a peddle. It works great.

It has worked out very well, and have used it several times.

Works like it is supposed to

This product has done just what I needed to get my bicycle rack mounted out beyond the spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler. As a bonus when the bike rack is not on; I have left in it as a step for climbing into the back of the Jeep. I use this product with the Curt Anti-Rattle Kit C22321 and it keeps my bicycle rack rock solid.

This item solved my problem the way I wanted it solved. Since my hitch receiver is behind an opening in my bumper cover on my 2015 Traverse, I wanted an hitch extender that did not stick out very far past the bumper. I wanted to mount a backup light on the trailer hitch since the backup lights on my Traverse are mounted high on the lift gate and did not illuminate my driveway (or any surface I happened to be on and backing up) to my satisfaction.
One manufacturers offered a 9" extender. Another offered a 12" extender. I wanted something to just clear the bumper cover but not a shin banger or a knee banger that I would be constantly banging with my leg as I walked behind my vehicle. etrailer.com offered an 8" hitch extender that worked perfectly for my purpose.
I had never used my trailer hitch to tow a trailer so I decided to put it to good use as a backup light mount. When towing time comes all I have to do is unplug an electrical connection and remove the extender and slide in the hitch ball assembly and tow away.
(I can supply a photo of the finished product if you desire. However, since it was nothing to do with towing I thought maybe a photo was not appropriate.)

by:

I just assembled the 8" hitch extender(80307) and the cargo carrier (24 x 60)(63153) and the hitch locking receivers(7683) and threw it on the Hummer H2. My God this this is huge, low wiggle as the hitches sometimes are, and got the cargo stretch net(7330) to top it off. I'm leery of plastic hooks but we will see on the net. I put some heavy stuff in the middle of the carrier and went out as the directions state, locked the stuff down with the cargo stretch net and took it out foe a spin with the wife driving behind me. She said it road very well with no shift. So with camping coming up we can't wait!

by:

Thanks etrailer, I ordered a hitch extender, Item: 80307, from you which was not in stock at the time. You said you would fill the order as soon as possible and keep me updated as to its arrival. I did receive the extender and was kept up to date with regular e-mails as to it's progress. Even with a slight delay, all worked out fine. Now I
can haul my bikes with the spare tire still attached to the back of my van.

by:

Fit my Drawtite hitch perfectly. Good e xtension.

Great. Use it all the time and it makes a good weight to hold things down.

by:

Love that it has both a 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch hole. Very secure for my wheel chair lift which has a 1/2 hole but my hitch has 5/8 hole. Using this extension I can securely mount my lift.

by:

The quality of the product was good and etrailer's service has always been outstanding (why I keep coming back). The price was fair compared to the exact product offered elsewhere but I felt it was a little high for something with no moving or exotic parts and minimal engineering - but when you have to extend that bike rack out past the spare tire hanging off the back of your 4x4 it's what you need!.

by:

I needed an extension for the receiver hitch on my Colorado pick up to move my bike rack back far enough to lower my tail gate without damaging it. This did the trick. I now have about 1 1/2 inches to spare. The reason I picked this particular extension is that the part that goes into the receiver is hollow which allows for a spring loaded gizmo that goes inside and is threaded, so that it can be tightened up to eliminate rattle and some sway. I ordered the anti rattle hitch pin along with the extension. After I installed it today, it is nice and tight with no play whatsoever in the bike rack. Excellent product.

by:

This was a perfect fit for my 2020 KIA Sedona. The hitch attached quickly, exhaust needed to be lowered but just needed to unclipped. The wiring harness plugged in and it was ready to go. Nice clean install.

by:

bought the hitch to keep the boat away from the slide in camper the longer hitch makes taking tight corners and backing up easier

by:

Great price on a heavy-duty drawbar ext ension.

Love this extender for use with a four-bike rack. Have used it a number of times, and it allows the tailgate to open without taking the bike rack off. Its just a great piece and I wish I had gotten it long ago.

by:

The length of this extension is perfect for my Jeep Wrangler TJ with Hanson rear bumper and spare tire mount swing away. I then mount the Swagman bike rack and the bikes easily clear the spare tire.

by:

The hitch extender was exactly as described and pictured and the quality is excellent. But, what was most impressive is the service. George J processed my order almost immediately, which is more surprising in that I placed it on a weekend! I will definitely consider using this company again for my trailering needs. Thanks.

  • How Does Hitch Extender Typically Affect Trailer Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity
I wish we had an exact figure we could give you on that. But the general rule of thumb is that anytime you use a hitch extender you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This is due to the added leverage like you mentioned as well as the added movement created in the hitch. The length of the extension does not typically change that much of that figure. We've seen some shorter ones reduce the capacity by only 30 percent but that's pretty far and few between.

  • Line Pull Capacity Of Curt Front Mount Receiver On a 2015 Ram 2500 With Hitch Extender On Winch
A 8" # 80307 or 14" # HE12 Hitch Extender will not lower the line pulling capacity for the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # C31015 on your 2015 Ram 2500. Instead you will be limited to the tow rating of the extender which is going to be 3,500lbs for the 8" and 7,000lbs for the 12". If you use the extenders for a hitch mounted accessory or with a trailer is the only time the maximum capacity will be reduced with an extender. The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-2 does have...

  • Can a Hitch Extender Be Used With Ram 1500 Pulling a 5,500LB Winnebago Travel Trailer?
I have a recommendation for you as there is not a hitch extender capable of supporting the weight of your Winnebago behind your Ram 1500. You may be able to use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600 which is 6" longer than most weight distribution shanks. You only need to verify your Husky has a vertical hole spacing of 1-1/4" on center. Adapters like the Gen-Y # GY89SR require you to reduce your receiver capacity by 50%. This will most likely put you below the 5,500lb capacity...

  • Recommended 8" Hitch Exteneder for a 2021 Forest River IBEX TT
You can use the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 with your current hitch you'll just lose 50 percent of the hitch's tongue weight capacity. If you have to use any form of an adapter you're going to lose tongue weight capacity. If you're looking for just a standard 8" extender you can use the Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches # 80307. This will fit into 2" trailer hitches, has a 300 lb tongue weight capacity, and a 3,500 GTW capacity.

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Two Voyager Radius E-Bikes
The Voyager Radius E-bikes are an interesting style and don't leave you with much of a selection for a compatible bike rack. I recommend the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack item # TH903202 because this rack is perfect for bikes without traditional cross tubes. It has clamps that are designed for attaching to bike frames like your Voyagers. The EasyFold rack has a higher capacity of 65 lbs per bike. It also has a ramp built into it to allow for easy loading of heavier bikes. There is no minimum...
